Chicken Cafreal Skewers

CHICKEN CAFREAL SKEWERS


Cafreal is a traditional Goan dish. Cafreal masala is a blend of herbs, dried spices and a little rum is added to the masala while blending, but rum is a option you can also use coconut vinegar instead. Cafreal is a mainly served as main course. 
I always love to eat Chicken Cafreal as a starter, so I have made Chicken Cafreal skewers. I hope you all enjoy this simple and flavourful Chicken Cafreal Skewers.

Ingredients:
½ Kg Boneless Chicken Breast
Salt
Pepper
1 ½ teaspoon Coconut Vinegar
For Cafreal Masala
1 bunch of Coriander leaves
6 Green chilies
6 Mint leaves
½ Ginger
6 Cloves of Garlic
6 Cloves
½ Cinnamon
5gms Coconut Jaggery
1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
½ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
6 Peppercorns
60 ml Dark Rum

For Salad
1 Sliced Onion
1 Green chili
1 Tomato
½ Lime
Few springs of Coriander Leaves

For Potato chips
1 Potato
Water
Salt
Oil to fry

Method:
-          Wash the chicken breast. Cut the chicken breast by using a knife in to a buffer fly cut.  
 

-          Further cut the chicken into long strips. Peirce the chicken strips with a fork.
 


-          Marinate the chicken with salt, pepper and coconut vinegar. Mix well and keep aside
-      Gather all the ingredients for the Cafreal masala and blend along with rum to a fine thick paste.
 

-          Apply the cafreal masala to the chicken and marinate for an hour.
 

-          After an hour take the chicken strips and insert the skewer from the bottom to the top very gently. Keep aside.
 

-          For the potato chips. Skin the potato, cut the potato into very thin slices. In a pan, boil water. Add the sliced potato and let it cook for a minute. Drain the water and place the potato slices on a platter and refrigerate for 20 minutes.  



 



-          Heat oil in a pan. Take out the potato from the refrigerator and fry the potato in the hot oil till the potatoes are crisp. Sprinkle salt over the fried potatoes and keep aside.
 

-          For salad. Slice the onions, green chilies, tomatoes and coriander leaves.  In a bowl add all the sliced ingredients add salt and lime juice and mix.
-          Heat oil in a tawa or frying pan. Place the chicken skewers in the hot tawa and fry till the chicken is cooked.

-          Serve in a plate along with crispy fried potato chips and salad.
